In a top top ASX 200 business I was recently told to stop asking about the outcomes and stay in my lane.

Why on earth should I not focus on the outcomes of my design work? Design is how something works. So how something works should ultimately be determined by why it works. So getting out of my lane is something I should be involved in doing.

If I go and speak to a marketing manager, I’m sure as hell going to ask β€œwhat could this do for the business?”.

I’ll take the overtaking lane, because my tombstone isn’t going to read β€œI was just getting the hang of this”.
